Scouting Notes:
This matchup was the highlight of the weekend, delivering a fast-paced, physical game that kept those who were on the edge of their seats for all 51 minutes. Both teams traded scoring chances throughout, with the L.I. Gulls pulling ahead early in the third period to secure a 2-1 victory.
The Gulls, currently ranked 3rd in the national rankings, were expected to control the game, but the Titans, ranked 38th, put up a much tougher fight than anticipated. Despite the disparity in rankings, the Titans proved they are a better team than their current position suggests. Based on this performance, they could be a team to watch as the season progresses.
Leon Chapkis - #37 Goalie - L.I. Gulls
Chapkis was, without a doubt, the standout player in this game. His rebound control was flawless, allowing him to limit second-chance opportunities. Despite heavy traffic in front of him, Chapkis maintained his composure and made clean, decisive saves. His athleticism was on full display, reacting quickly to shots while moving laterally with ease. He was particularly impressive in high-pressure situations, stopping three breakaways and five additional high-danger chances. A truly dominant performance between the pipes.
Marko Lisica - #28 Forward - L.I. Gulls
Lisica, a towering 6’3”, 220 lb center, was a dominant presence throughout the game. He consistently used his size and strength to protect the puck, driving hard to the net and winning battles along the boards. Despite his large frame, he displayed impressive mobility. His standout moment came when he executed a brilliant spin-o-rama pass, perfectly disguising it to the point where neither the Titan defenders nor their goalie could react. By the time they realized, the puck was on his teammate’s stick and quickly the net.
Dylan Chabier - #77 Defenseman - L.I. Gulls
Chabier is a dynamic, smooth-skating defenseman with an explosive first step. His ability to change directions without losing speed is exceptional, making him highly effective in transitioning from offense to defense. He was a key factor in zone exits and entries, consistently using his above-average skill set to create scoring opportunities for both his teammates and himself. A well-rounded and impactful performance on both ends of the ice.
Gairin Michalski - #3 Defenseman - L.I. Gulls
Michalski is a crafty skater, using quick starts and stops to navigate the blue line and open up shooting or passing lanes through traffic. He plays a very physical game, excelling in battles along the boards and in front of his own net. His combination of agility and physicality makes him a key contributor in both the offensive and defensive zones.
Oliver Czaja - #11 Forward - L.I. Gulls
Czaja is an exceptionally shifty forward with lightning-quick feet and above-average skills. He showcased his ability to beat defenders one-on-one, going around the Titans’ defense on two separate occasions. Like all Gulls forwards, Czaja is reliable defensively, consistently strong on the backcheck and committed to blocking shots in his own end. A dynamic, two-way player.
James Lucosky - #15 Defenseman - N.J. Titans
Lucosky is a rock-solid defenseman who anchors the Titans’ blue line. He is a classic “minute-eating” player, trusted in all situations, whether on the penalty kill or running the power play. While he may not flash elite offensive skills, he’s more than capable of quarterbacking the power play. His skating could use improvement, particularly his foot speed, but he was still effective in defending against the Gulls’ fast-paced attack. Lucosky’s strength and reliability make him a key piece for the Titans’ defense.
Bryce Sheehan - #12 Forward - N.J. Titans
What stands out most about Sheehan is his impressive two-way play. In the defensive zone, he was a force, blocking shots, disrupting passing lanes, and applying pressure on the Gulls’ defense at the blue line, forcing them to move the puck faster than they wanted and limiting their ability to generate offense. Offensively, Sheehan displayed excellent vision and high hockey IQ, threading passes through tight spaces to set up his linemates for quality scoring chances. A strong performance on both ends of the ice.
France’s “Frannie” Donahue - #19 Forward - N.J. Titans
In a game full of speedsters, Donahue may have been the fastest player on the ice. He consistently used his speed to apply pressure in all areas—whether it was disrupting plays in the neutral zone, forechecking aggressively, or creating offensive chances on the rush. On two occasions, he blew past the Gulls’ defense and got in alone on the goalie, forcing him to make big saves. Donahue’s speed made him a constant threat throughout the game.
Jordan Bowman - #17 Forward - N.J. Titans
Bowman may not be the biggest or fastest player on the ice, but he was a force throughout the game. His high hockey IQ, excellent vision, and soft hands allowed him to create scoring chances for his teammates. He was also quick enough to be aggressive on the puck, forcing several turnovers with his relentless pressure. A smart, playmaking forward who makes an impact in all areas of the game.
Shay Jardine - #18 Defenseman - N.J. Titans
Jardine, an ’07-born player, holds down a top-pairing role for the Titans, showcasing his talent at a young age. An above-average skater with a high hockey IQ, he excels as a shutdown defender. The son of a coach, Jardine is well-versed in defensive fundamentals, using his knowledge to effectively defend against the rush and maintain strong positional play in his own zone. A smart, reliable presence on the back end.
Luke Delaney - #11 Forward - N.J. Titans
Delaney is a fast, agile center with excellent edge work, allowing him to create space with a variety of moves. A physical two-way player, he drives play effectively, whether by skating the puck through traffic in the neutral zone for clean zone entries or by advancing the play with quick, accurate passes. His combination of speed, skill, and physicality makes him a key contributor on both ends of the ice.
Jackson Chicola - #10 Forward - N.J. Titans
Chicola may not be the biggest or fastest player, especially in open ice, but that didn’t stop him from making impactful plays throughout the game, including scoring the Titans’ only goal. He possesses a high hockey IQ, is skilled in tight areas, and is elusive when opponents try to hit him. His tenacity in puck battles and relentless compete level make him a constant presence on the ice, contributing in all aspects of the game.
